New Orleans

Here are a few more pictures from my trip to New Orleans recently. It is an interesting area. The French Quarter is nice but then the rest of the city is very poor and dirty an in poor repair.

Driving into the city on I-10

The Superdome and New Orleans Skyline

The cemeteries are all above ground because when they were buried underground, the coffins use to poke up from under the ground when the water level would rise.

The Mississippi River at night.

The French Quarter

Typical building outside of the "nice" part of town

There are still many buildings with boards over the windows from Katrina

Airboat Tour

I just got back from a Trip to New Orleans for the annual ASA meeting were I presented a challenging case that I had recently. I was able to take an airboat ride in the bayou where we were able to see a lot of alligators and wildlife and also take a pretty fun boat ride. Our guide was born and raised in the bayou. I think I picked up a little accent just taking the trip!

Our "full" boat ready for adventure!

Pretending to steal the boat!

A 9 foot croc right beside our boat.

Trees growing right up out of the water.

Cruising down the bayou. They told us to watch out for snakes falling out of the trees. The guide said about once a year one will fall onto a boat

Sunbathing! (8 foot long)

Very nice weather for the end of October.

Feeding an 11 ft gator some "swamp crack" otherwise known as marshmallows

The other group (with a completely full boat) returning the at the same time.

Overall this was a very fun trip. Totally worth it! I think I will go again if I am ever in the area again. I will post more New Orleans picts soon!
